Firewise USA

We are proud to announce that as of 2025, Villa Real is officially recognized as a Firewise USA® Community.

This certification, awarded by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), acknowledges our neighborhood’s collaborative efforts to reduce wildfire risk. It is not just a badge of honor; it is a commitment to keeping our homes and neighbors safer through ongoing vegetation management and home hardening.

Why This Matters to You Participation in the Firewise USA® program provides two major benefits to our residents:

  1. Safety: By working together to create defensible space and reduce “fuel loads” (overgrown brush, dead branches, etc.), we significantly improve the odds of our homes surviving a wildfire event.
  2. Insurance Discounts: Many insurance carriers in California now offer discounts to homeowners in certified Firewise USA® communities. The California Department of Insurance has mandated that insurers recognize these risk-reduction efforts.
    • Note: You may need a copy of our community certificate to show your agent. Please use the Contact form to request a copy.

Maintaining Our Status: We Need Your Help Firewise certification is not a one-time event—it must be renewed annually. To keep our status (and our insurance discounts), the community must demonstrate that we invest a minimum amount of time and money into wildfire safety every year.

Every hour you spend gardening counts! The Association tracks community-wide efforts, but we need you to report your work. Valid activities include:

  • Clearing pine needles from gutters and roofs.
  • Trimming tree branches back from the house.
  • Removing dead or dying vegetation.
  • Replacing wood mulch with gravel or stone.
  • Hiring a landscaper or arborist for fire-safety work.

How to Report Your Work If you have performed any of the work above, please report it to the Firewise Committee so it counts toward our annual total.
